Boutique hotels in London, England for 2026: Soho, Bloomsbury, Chelsea and Belgravia, plus a yacht, a town hall, a liner hotel and rooms in a stadium.

Boutique hotels in London, England are the smaller stays with a point of view: a Georgian townhouse, a designed lobby, a garden, or a building that used to be something else. Nine of them sit in Soho, Bloomsbury, Clerkenwell, Belgravia and Chelsea. Four more are quirky hotels, the ones you book because the building is the story.

We may earn a commission when you book through links on this site (Expedia, via the Expedia Group affiliate program), at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we recommend. How that works.

The short list

  • Central Soho, with a rooftop: Broadwick Soho ($$$). Condé Nast Traveller flags it for a central location. 57 rooms, the Flute bar and Dear Jackie.
  • A Soho design landmark: The Soho Hotel ($$$). Firmdale, Kit Kemp interiors, and a 10-foot Botero cat in the lobby.
  • A garden by the British Museum: The Zetter Bloomsbury ($$). Six townhouses and a 1,000-square-meter walled garden.
  • The lower band, near Victoria: Room Mate Lime Tree ($). Two townhouses and a garden café. There is no elevator, and the rooms are small.
  • A hotel that does not look like a hotel: a yacht at Royal Victoria Dock, a converted town hall in Bethnal Green, a boat-themed hotel on the South Bank (18+), or 13 rooms inside a football stadium. Details are in the quirky section. The yacht is not a central base.

What the price bands mean

The $ / $$ / $$$ marks are a rough overnight guide, not a rate you can book. $ is under about £250, $$ is about £250 to £450, and $$$ is above that. They are not a quote for your dates. Open the hotel's link and read the price for the nights you want.

Neighborhoods are a separate decision from the hotel. Our where to stay in London guide compares bases for a first visit. This page names the hotels.

Boutique hotels in Soho

Soho is the densest group here, and it sits against the West End theaters. If the evening is a show, our West End show tickets guide covers how to get seats. Search hotels in Soho on Expedia if you want more than the three below.

Broadwick Soho · $$$

Condé Nast Traveller UK singles this out for a central location. It has 57 rooms of Martin Brudnizki maximalism, the Flute rooftop bar and the Dear Jackie restaurant. Book it when you want to be in the middle of Soho and you are willing to pay the top band for that.

Hazlitt's · $$

Hazlitt's is a Georgian townhouse hotel at 6 Frith Street, with a library and an honesty bar. The hotel's own site describes the rooms as "quirky boutique hotel rooms," which is the right expectation: character first, not a new-build finish. It is the Soho stay for someone who wants a townhouse rather than a scene.

The Soho Hotel · $$$

The Soho Hotel is Firmdale's building in Richmond Mews, a converted multistory parking garage. The interiors are by Kit Kemp, and a 10-foot Botero cat stands in the lobby. Choose it over Broadwick when the design of the building is the reason you are in Soho, and you still want the top band.

Boutique hotels in Bloomsbury

Both of these are Georgian townhouses, a short walk from each other in spirit if not on the same street. Search hotels in Bloomsbury on Expedia for other stays near the British Museum.

The Zetter Bloomsbury · $$

Six Georgian townhouses on Montague Street, backing onto the British Museum, with a 1,000-square-meter walled garden. This is the Bloomsbury pick if the morning plan is the museum and you want green space that is actually the hotel's.

Bertrand's Townhouse · $$

Three Georgian townhouses on Bedford Place, with a speakeasy-style salon called Ottie's and a cigar garden. Same band as The Zetter Bloomsbury, different evening: a salon and a garden for cigars, rather than the museum wall.

A boutique hotel in Clerkenwell

Clerkenwell has one hotel on this list. Search hotels in Clerkenwell on Expedia if you want to see what else is bookable in the neighborhood.

The Zetter Clerkenwell · $$

This is the 13-room Georgian townhouse on St John's Square, with a cocktail lounge. It used to be called Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell. The hotel has dropped "Townhouse" from the name, so search and book it as The Zetter Clerkenwell. It is not The Zetter Bloomsbury: that one is the six townhouses by the museum.

Boutique hotels in Belgravia

Belgravia here means two different jobs: a lower-band townhouse near Victoria, and an art-filled hotel on Chesham Place. Search hotels in Victoria on Expedia for more stays on the Victoria side of this patch. The Victoria link is a Victoria search, which is the right pool for the Lime Tree end of the neighborhood.

Room Mate Lime Tree · $

This is the value stay. Condé Nast Traveller flags it for an affordable price. It is two townhouses on Ebury Street, near Victoria, with a garden café. It has been rebranded, so the name to book is Room Mate Lime Tree, not Lime Tree Hotel. There is no elevator, and the rooms are small. If stairs or a tight room would spoil the trip, pick a different hotel even though this is the only $ band on the list.

The Hari · $$

The Hari is on Chesham Place. The rooms are loft-style and art-filled, including Tracey Emin lithographs, and the Italian restaurant is il Pampero. It is the Belgravia choice when you want the art and the restaurant and you can spend the middle band, not the Lime Tree band.

A boutique hotel in Chelsea

Search hotels in Chelsea on Expedia covers the rest of the neighborhood. One hotel from this list is here.

The Chelsea Townhouse · $$

36 rooms on Cadogan Gardens. Guests can use the private Cadogan Place Gardens, and the ground-floor suites open onto them. Book a ground-floor suite only if that garden door is the point. The other rooms still have access to the gardens. They do not all open onto them.

Quirky hotels in London

These four are the unique hotels in London, England on this list: a floating yacht, a converted town hall, an ocean-liner-themed riverside hotel, and a hotel inside a football stadium. A converted church did not check out, so this list does not include one. None of the four is a substitute for a Soho townhouse if your days are spent walking the West End. If you'd usually look for an Airbnb-style stay when deciding where to stay in London, these hotels are unique places to stay in London that you book as hotels.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel · $$

Sunborn is a floating superyacht hotel moored at Royal Victoria Dock, with more than 136 rooms. It is by ExCeL, in east London, not in the center. Book it because you want to sleep on the yacht, or because you are at ExCeL. Do not book it as a base for Westminster. Search hotels in Shoreditch on Expedia if what you actually wanted was East London nightlife. Shoreditch is a different neighborhood from the dock.

Town Hall Hotel · $$

Town Hall Hotel is in Bethnal Green's converted former town hall, on Patriot Square, with an indoor pool. It is the quirky stay for someone who wants the old civic building and a pool, and who is fine being in Bethnal Green rather than on the river or in Soho.

Sea Containers London · $$$

Sea Containers is a boat-themed Tom Dixon design on the Thames, on the South Bank, with its own cinema. Guests must be 18 or older. It is the most central of the four quirky hotels, and the only one in the top price band. The Thames boats are a separate ticket. Our Thames cruises guide compares them. Search South Bank hotels on Expedia for other riverside stays.

Fulham Pier Hotel · $$

Fulham Pier Hotel is 13 river rooms and suites inside the grounds of Craven Cottage, London's oldest football stadium. There is no on-site restaurant and no gym. Plan dinner off the property, and do not expect a fitness room. It is the stay for a match, or for the odd fact of sleeping inside the stadium grounds, not for a week of museums.

How to choose and book

Start with the constraint, not the photo. If someone in the room cannot manage stairs, Room Mate Lime Tree is out. If anyone is under 18, Sea Containers is out. If you want dinner in the building, Fulham Pier is out. If you need to walk to the West End, Sunborn, Town Hall and Fulham Pier are the wrong map.

Then match the day. Soho (Broadwick, Hazlitt's, The Soho Hotel) if the trip is theaters, restaurants and late nights. Bloomsbury (The Zetter Bloomsbury, Bertrand's) if the British Museum is the morning. Belgravia and Chelsea (Lime Tree, The Hari, The Chelsea Townhouse) if you want residential streets and you will ride the Tube to the classic sights. Clerkenwell is the 13-room townhouse, and only that, on this list.

Use the price band to throw out the wrong tier, then ignore it. $$$ in Soho and at Sea Containers is the top band. Room Mate Lime Tree is the only $. Everything else on this page is $$. The number on Expedia for your dates is the one that matters.

For a hotel that is not one of these thirteen, search the whole city.

Quick answers

What is a boutique hotel in London, England?

On this page it means a smaller, design-led hotel rather than a large chain box: Georgian townhouses, a Soho rooftop, a walled garden by the British Museum. Four more unusual buildings (a yacht, a former town hall, a boat-themed riverside hotel and rooms in a football stadium) are listed separately as quirky hotels.

Which part of London has the most boutique hotels on this list?

Soho, with three: Broadwick Soho, Hazlitt's on Frith Street, and The Soho Hotel in Richmond Mews. Bloomsbury has The Zetter Bloomsbury and Bertrand's Townhouse. Belgravia has Room Mate Lime Tree and The Hari. Chelsea and Clerkenwell have one each.

Which boutique hotel in London is in the lower price band?

Room Mate Lime Tree, on Ebury Street near Victoria, is the only $ hotel here. $ means under about £250 a night as a rough guide, not a live rate. The hotel has no elevator, and the rooms are small. It was formerly the Lime Tree Hotel.

What are the quirkiest hotels in London?

Four we could verify: Sunborn London Yacht Hotel, a floating superyacht at Royal Victoria Dock by ExCeL; Town Hall Hotel, in Bethnal Green's converted former town hall, with an indoor pool; Sea Containers London, a boat-themed hotel on the South Bank where guests must be 18 or older; and Fulham Pier Hotel, 13 river rooms inside the grounds of Craven Cottage. A converted-church hotel was not verified, so there is not one on this list.

Is the Sunborn yacht hotel in central London?

No. It is moored at Royal Victoria Dock, by ExCeL, in east London, and it has more than 136 rooms. Treat it as a dock stay, not a base for walking to Westminster or the West End.

What should I check before booking one of these hotels?

Room Mate Lime Tree has no elevator and small rooms. Sea Containers London is 18 and older. Fulham Pier Hotel has no on-site restaurant or gym. Sunborn is not central. At The Chelsea Townhouse, guests can use the private Cadogan Place Gardens, and the ground-floor suites are the rooms that open onto them. The Zetter Clerkenwell used to be called Zetter Townhouse Clerkenwell.

How do I book these boutique hotels?

Use the Expedia link on the hotel and check the dates you actually want. The $ / $$ / $$$ bands are a rough guide (under about £250, about £250 to £450, and above that), not a quote. For a neighborhood instead of a named hotel, use the area searches in each section.

Where do I find Airbnb-style unique places to stay in London?

On this page they are hotels, not Airbnb listings. The four quirky hotels are a floating superyacht at Royal Victoria Dock, by ExCeL, which is not in central London; Town Hall Hotel, in Bethnal Green's converted former town hall, with an indoor pool; Sea Containers London, a boat-themed hotel on the South Bank where guests must be 18 or older; and Fulham Pier Hotel, 13 river rooms inside the grounds of Craven Cottage, with no on-site restaurant or gym. Book them with the Expedia links in that section.
